The magnification of an astronomical telescope is found by dividing the focal length of the tube by that of the eyepiece. For example on this 1000mm tube, used with a 10mm eyepice, magnification = 1000/10=100x. with a 5mm eyepice magnification = 1000/5=200x. Higher magnifications can be achieved using a 2x or 3x barlow.
